WHEN I was a kid, my mates and I often enjoyed a delightful burger at the Wimpy restaurant on High Row, in Darlington.
It was often full with diners, and we could never understand why it closed.
The nearest Wimpy to Darlington is 33 miles further north in Long Benton in Newcastle.
With the number of shops that are currently empty in the town centre, it would be fantastic to see the burger chain return to the town.
McDonalds is a decent place to eat, but a couple of hours later, you seem to feel hungry again.
Burger King has large cheeseburgers but the fries are not very nice, while at KFC you can more or less count the number of chips you get on one hand. Have spuds been rationed in the Kentucky outlets?
The days of the chaps and myself talking about Subbuteo and Super Gran are long gone, but it would be nice to see a Wimpy restaurant back in the town, so that I could order a spicy bean burger with a vanilla milkshake, and have a chat about the cosmos or Carol Voderman with whoever is unfortunate enough to be dining with me.
Christopher Wardell, Darlington.
