AN article in the Northern Echo (June 27) reports that the disused former Focus store at Tindale Crescent, in Bishop Auckland, is to be demolished. Good riddance.
A police source says that building and site has become an eyesore, but I would submit that this has been the case since the store was first built.
An horrendous green box of a building, it should have been erected on a plot next to the residence of the person who granted the original planning permission.
Although I’m pleased to see the back of this monstrosity, my satisfaction is tempered by a suspicion that local taxpayers will be bearing the demolition costs.
The report further states that the intention is to erect six shop units on the site. As it is virtually next door to the recently-opened Sainsburys and Tesco supermarkets I suspect there will not be a stampede in the rush to occupy the shops.
