IT was interesting to read that the editor, Peter Barron, visits a gym (Echo, June 20).

Exercise is good for you, and people work out in many different ways. It also makes you feel better within yourself.

Some people go walking, others play squash, but after I hung up my football boots I decided to join the Blackwell hotel gymnasium in Darlington.

I used to go jogging outdoors but, after years pounding the pavements shouting at myself as I jogged, I began to get bored so I joined the gym so to run indoors sheltered from the elements.

A friend of mine said that he also joined a gymnasium once, but grew bored and gave up.

If some of you find it wearying visiting the gym, take an iPod and listen to music while you work out, or just do what I often do and pretend that you are being chased by a swarm of bees while you are on the treadmill.

It’s great fun and it also makes you run faster.
