IN response to David Lowdon (HAS June 13) who questioned the influence of The Beatles on popular music.
Yes, all the different musical styles he mentioned existed before, but The Beatles made these styles popular.
Until the early Sixties, the only records that sold were rock ‘n roll or songs by crooners such as Matt Monroe, Max Bygraves and Frank Sinatra.
The Beatles brought different styles of music into the charts and paved the way for others to follow.
The fact that so many of today’s artists cite The Beatles as their main influence shows just what an impact they had.
This should never be underestimated, especially by musical philistines like Mr Lowdon.
Ricky Butler, Barton.
