IN last week’s Gadfly column Mike Amos asserts that the term “monkey’s blood” (for raspberry sauce) was exclusive to the North-East.
This is not the case.
I was born and grew up in South-West Lancashire, about a dozen miles from Liverpool, and the term was current there. I cannot speak for other parts of the country, but it was certainly true of my home territory.
