THE Wurlitzer organ at the James Finegan Hall did not “begin its organ life” in Redcar as Councillor George Dunning suggests (HAS, May 25).
In 1978, the Cleveland Organ Society removed the seven tonne organ from the Granada Theatre in Bedford and installed it in the pier ballroom on the remains of Redcar pier. The inaugural concert was at Easter 1979.
A year later, it was dismantled and moved to Eston, prior to the demolition of the pier in 1981.
Peter Sotheran, Redcar.
