JAYNE MANSFIELD was an American actress in the Fifties and Sixties.
Her voluptuous figure and good looks made her a natural heir to the mantle of Marilyn Monroe.
Indeed, her bosom was so famous that talk-show host Jack Paar once welcomed the actress to The Tonight Show by saying, “Here they are, Jayne Mansfield” – a quip that became the title of her autobiography.
She appeared in many great movies including The Girl Can’t Help It, The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw, Too Hot To Handle and The Wayward Bus.
However, as her stardom waned in Hollywood she was forced to seek out new audiences and spent a memorable few weeks touring the northern club circuit playing venues in Middlesbrough and Newcastle.
She also mixed with famous stars such as Walter Matthau, Kenneth More, Sid James, Bob Hope and Lucille Ball even, in one memorable encounter, meeting Prime Minister-to be Edward Heath and describing him afterwards as “quite a bachelor”.
Sadly, Jayne was tragically killed in a New Orleans car crash in 1967. However, I certainly won’t forget her.
