TONY KELLY’S letter about the royal wedding hit the nail on the head (HAS, May 17).
This was indeed a happy occasion. I loved it, as did the majority of the country.
Sadly, there are some miserable people who contribute to HAS. All doom and gloom.
Makes one wonder if they ever have a laugh.

I WAS collecting some old newspapers to put in the recycling, when I happened to notice a copy of the News of the World from a few weeks ago.
It was a colour picture of the royal wedding family portrait.
Not being a fan of the royal family, I avoided coverage of the wedding as best I could on the big day, but something caught my eye on the photo which left me annoyed and slightly confused.
Prince Philip’s uniform coat was emblazoned with a row of about 20 medals.
Prince Charles also had at least a dozen or so on jacket.
Now, I know that Prince Philip served in the Greek navy during the Second World War, but I cannot remember their navy being in any battles, so these medals are not for bravery.
And as for Prince Charles, what are all his medals for, scoring goals at polo or falling off his horse? To me they are just for show.
I always thought medals were for bravery and serving your country.
My father served in the Royal Navy from 1940 to 1946.
He was at Dunkirk and the DDay landings, and yet he only had four medals.
I hope readers will enlighten me about this.
Mick Peacock, Coxhoe.
