JIM TAGUE’S demeaning characterisation of what he considers to be a socialist (HAS, May 11) is more of a reflection of his own egotistical attitude and the party he represents.
It reminds me of my very first contribution to HAS when I was inadvertently signed off as “Maurice Bates” in error.
In criticising the non-existent Mr Bates, Mr Tague described him, in his own inimitable way, as a typical Labour supporter who could not pass a club.
I now confess to having a skeleton in my cupboard having been a member of a Conservative club during part of my misspent youth.
I joined not through any political motivation but the fact that it contained a snooker table.
Mr Tague might be relieved to learn that I am no longer a member and make a point of passing it by.
Maurice Baker, Spennymoor.
