I READ with interest about the call for Darlington’s residential roads to be governed by a 20mph speed limit (Echo, May 18).
While I agree in principle with this I just wonder how on earth it would work?
With devastating cuts in the police and a recent survey by the Durham branch of the Police Federation telling us that morale in the force is at its lowest for years, a fact which the Chief Constable and the Police Authority seem to be in denial, there just would not be the resources to enforce it.
We have already been told that crime is set to rise, so what will take precedence, serious crime such as burglary and assaults or chasing speeding vehicles doing 25mph?
David Duncan, Darlington.
