THE Government is giving police new powers to issue on-the-spot fines and penalty points for careless driving.
I can understand the need to keep the roads safe.
What I can’t understand is the responsibility for this being given to the police, who, in my opinion, are the drivers with the worst accident records on the roads.
It’s not so long ago a police driver was doing 80mph in a 30mph zone with a defective tyre and lost control killing a lady.
Perhaps the reason I am wary of police drivers is because in 1940, when I was 12, I was run over by a policeman and left with cuts and bruises.
He was on his push-bike.
