REGARDING councillor Chris Abbott’s letter on the Redcar vertical pier (HAS, May 16).
Criticising former councillor Mike Findley is somewhat bizarre.
Councillor Abbott is attempting to spin an election defeat in Redcar and Cleveland for the Lib Dems into a victory.
The actual figures are Labour 32, all other political parties 27 – an overall majority for Labour.
The vertical pier has always had cross party support until the election when the Lib Dems jumped ship to try and gain a political advantage.
The concept won a design competition in 2008 chaired by the Royal Society of British Architects. On the horizontal pier, we are still waiting to see if Redcar’s Lib Dem MP can get any money from the Secretary State.
Councillor George Dunning, leader, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
