I REFER to the attacks against Grahame Maxwell, the Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police, by the media and a certain MP (Echo, May 10).

Taken in perspective, he was not guilty of any criminal offence, fraud or deception (unlike some MPs) but guilty of an indiscretion.

Such indiscretions have been committed with apparent impunity by others in the past.

No doubt, they will be committed in the future without the same level of criticism.

North Yorkshire is lucky to have this decent chief who is serving the county well and much better than some of the past.

He has had his knuckles rapped It’s time to lay off and let him get on with the job.G Sanderson, Northallerton.
