BEFORE the local elections Councillor Chris Abbott told the people of Redcar and Cleveland that if the Liberal Democrats gained control of the council they would scrap the idea of a vertical pier in favour of a horizontal pier.
Well, the people have now had their say in a proper democratic election returning Labour with an increased majority, with a mandate to Councillor George Dunning and his colleagues to continue their good work of the last four years, including the Redcar seafront regeneration and the vertical pier.
I look forward to visiting the pier and looking out to see Coun Abbott eating humble pie.
Mike Findley, Marske.
