I WAS interested to read a mention in the John North column, written by Mike Amos, of the late Max Jaffa of Palm Court Orchestra fame (Echo, May 5).

Mike’s reference reminded me of a story the great violinist told for the benefit of his radio listeners.

He said: “To all of you football fans out there, you might or might not have noticed that my team, Tottenham Hotspur, allowed Everton to draw with them yesterday.”

This was Max Jaffa’s way of letting his many listeners know that his Sunday night broadcasts from Scarborough were always a live transmission.

Jaffa was a very talented musician and his performances were extremely popular LD Wilson, Guisborough.
