THE UK could again be liable for a bailout under the controversial eurozone support agreed by the previous Labour government.

A new rescue package for Greece, on top of a £95bn deal last year, could bring Britain’s contribution to more than £15bn.

Britain has already given Ireland £7bn in loans and is expected to contribute £4.3bn to a looming bailout for Portugal.

This equates to about £600 for every hard-pressed household in Britain.

Bailouts are proving to be bad news for both the country receiving the money and the countries lending the money. If you borrow too much you need to look at ways to reduce the deficit, not come begging to countries that are on the right track.

A year of bailouts have so far only made the situation worse.

We need to stop throwing good taxpayers’ money after bad. We need to leave the wasteful EU, just as we have left the wasteful Labour Government behind.

The only way we can do this, however, is through the ballot box.
