ON a recent visit to Durham I was amazed to see how many taxis were on the rank near the Fighting Cocks.
I timed some of them while we were shopping and, incredibly, some of them were parked there for more than 30 minutes I cannot see how the proprietors and drivers could have possibly made a living.
Added to this is the threat of the council opening the floodgates for taxis outside the area.
Why can’t the council look after their tenants and let the drivers of the taxis look after the passengers?
