COULD it be that Wilfred Pickles, radio star of the Forties and Fifties, and Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, are related albeit distantly?
Both no-nonsense, bluff Yorkshiremen making a difference to the ordinary man in the street, Wilfred brought some joy in the rather dour post-war years, even giving away money on his radio show, Have A Go, while Eric brings erm… erm. No, perhaps they’re not.
