I WOULD like to make people aware of the danger to pet dogs or young children when walking.
On Monday, my dog and I were attacked by two lurcher-type dogs, which were with their owner but not on leads.
My dog was on a lead and is a gentle type.
When we saw them one of the dogs ran at us. As we turned away, the other attacked my dog by gripping onto her leg and dragging her down. Both dogs then started to bite her.
I was on the floor with my dog trying to get them off and was bitten quite badly on both hands.
The owner had no control over his dogs once they attacked. My dog has quite bad injuries to her back legs and is receiving treatment from a vet. I am unable to work due to injuries on both my hands.
The police have not done anything other than to say they can only advise the owner to keep his dogs on a lead and no crime had been committed.
The dog warden said it was a police matter.
But if this had been a small dog, or even a child, they would have been torn apart.
This has affected me emotionally as well as physically and it will take a long time before I can get the images out of my head.
Dawn Baker, Shildon.
