WHEN Eric Gendle asks why would scientists lie about global warming (HAS, Jan 18), I think he misses the point.
The argument a lot of people are making is that the earth cools and warms naturally and this has little to do with human activity.
The price of oil and gas is rising fast and we are being encouraged to lose our dependence on them with everything from electric car subsidies to guilt over our carbon footprint.
Anyone who speaks out and disagrees with the man-made warming theory is regarded with contempt.
Personally, I know who I would believe and it wouldn’t be a government full of career politicians.
M McGregor, Shildon.
MAY I kindly point out to David Lacey (HAS, Jan 19) that a change in carbon dioxide levels from 0.027 per cent pre-industrial revolution to the current 0.038 per cent represents a change of nearly 41 per cent – not such an insignificant figure.
The climate would change considerably if there were minute shifts in either the inclination or speed of the earth’s axis, so it is not preposterous to reason that a large shift in carbon dioxide levels may affect climate.
May I suggest if the Lacey family moved approximately the same 41 per cent ( about 9,400 miles) across the Earth’s surface in any direction they would find a remarkably different climate to our current chilly winter.
