I AM afraid that CT Riley (HAS, Jan 11) has fallen hook, line and sinker for the campaign of misinformation being peddled by those vested interests that stand to make billions out of the global warming scam.
Although it is unpopular to say so, the planet may actually be entering a phase of rapid cooling.
The ice caps are not melting.
Indeed, parts of the Antarctic are icing over at a phenomenal rate, as is the Sea of Okhotsk where a Russian fishing fleet is currently trapped in 2m thick ice.
Having saddled us with crazy promises made at various summits and conferences to cut carbon dioxide emissions, politicians are now throwing billions at ridiculous projects such as wind farms and photovoltaics designed to produce small amounts of electricity unreliably and at huge unit cost.
At the same time, they are ignoring the need to invest in traditional power generation capacity, as our clapped-out coal and nuclear stations come to the end of their working lives. The country can ill-afford the luxury of waste on such a grand scale.
It is time that the media exposed this policy for the complete nonsense that it is.
David Lacey, Durham.
