BEN ORD (HAS, Jan 5) states that the “last Government allowed our manufacturing jobs to go abroad while allowing a huge influx of immigration”.
But if Labour had the power to stop firms moving overseas, why hasn’t the Coalition Government used these same powers to stop firms such as Cadburys and Twinings from doing the same?
No such powers exist. The real reason these firms moved stems largely from the advice given to them by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), a body which not only repeatedly told firms to move overseas, claiming it would provide money to create jobs within Britain, but which also advised the last Government that more immigrant workers in Britain would be good for the economy.
Instead of using HAS to condemn the last Government, promote the new whilst making derogatory remarks about ordinary people, why don’t Conservative and Lib Dem councillors start telling people what they are doing to try to bring jobs to the constituencies they represent?
