DESPITE hostility to regions, Labour foisted them upon England.

Local Government Secretary(for England only) Eric Pickles has approved the merger of some London metropolitan boroughs to form a super-council. Presumably, more super-councils in England are surreptitiously planned to mirror the existing reviled regions that split the northern voice.

We should exert our will on politicians, not they on us.

Cumberland, Durham, Northumberland and Westmorland could merge their services into a northern super-council.

Working together they can highlight the “Benefits Border” – where Scotland receives all the benefits of devolution while Northern England is robbed for the sake of the Union.

The latest theft is selling England’s forests while Scotland’s remain untouched. Is the Scottish Parliament going to buy our forests?

Is there anything more useless than an MP “representing” a constituency in England? The figures for spending cuts in England are 20 to 30 per cent while Scotland’s is about ten per cent, the smallest across the UK.

It’s time for the voters to tell our useless MPs what we want instead of them using the excuse of spending cuts to destroy England.

An elected English Parliament, focusing on England, should replace the unelected House of Lords that doesn’t scrutinise the Scottish Parliament anyway.
