PERHAPS Stephen Palmer (HAS, Oct 20) thinks that the terms “neo-Nazi” and “racist” are “over-used” because he hears them so often in reference to the BNP.
Or possibly because the BNP itself often misuses the word “racist” in referring to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Curiously, the BNP sides with al Qaida on this, endorsing the view that these are racist wars waged against Muslims – al Qaida’s principal recruiting ploy.
“Neo-Nazi” is almost exclusively, and correctly, applied to the BNP and like-minded organisations throughout Europe.
Among those who refer to the BNP as neo-Nazi and/or racist are many Church of England clergy, including the former Bishop of Durham, Tom Wright, and, as I mentioned before (HAS, Oct 21), The Northern Echo’s clergyman columnist, Peter Mullen.
According to Mr Palmer, these clergymen must be “Lib-Lab-Conmen” or politically-correct lefties. This will come as a disappointment to his fellow BNP activist, Ralph Musgrave, who has often expressed his admiration for Mr Mullen’s views.
