IT was mischievous of Ralph Musgrave (HAS, Oct 15) to subtly alter the headline of columnist Peter Mullen’s article, “We ignore Islam issue at our peril”

(Echo, Mar 9).

Mr Musgrave omitted the word “issue”. The issue to which Mr Mullen was referring was militant, Islamist extremism. He made clear his view of British Muslims in general. “Most,” he said, “are loyal and peace-loving British subjects.”

Since Mr Musgrave implies that Mr Mullen’s views are no different from the odious and racist views of the BNP, it is worth reminding him what Mr Mullen had to say about the BNP (Echo, Nov 27, 2007): “The policies of the BNP are vile and sectarian. If they were ever made into law, they would turn race relations in this country into a blood bath. The evil, mindless racism of the BNP is in any case based on lies and the misrepresentation of racial characteristics.”
