RE your recent correspondence about the “Royal” prefix to the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, but not to the Army.

Charles I was executed for waging war on Parliament. The Bill of Rights placed limits on the monarch keeping a standing army.

It is surprising that Parliament has allowed any of the armed forces to be “Royal”. “British”

would be more patriotic.

Putting an artificial gloss on the distasteful antics of many kings and princes detracts from the pride we truly have in our nation’s sons and daughters in uniform.
