RE your letter from an unnamed Arriva driver (HAS, Jan 16) defending colleagues against “moronic” comments.

Last November, 24 children, aged seven to nine – plus four adults – were waiting at the bus stop at Morson Avenue, Crook, for service 1 or 1B to travel back to Howden-le-Wear.

When the far-from-full Arriva double-decker came, it failed to stop, leaving children and adults to walk one-and-a-half miles along an open road to Howden-le-Wear school.

If any of these children had suffered an accident it would have been down to teachers and helpers, not the Arriva driver.

So your correspondent’s comments about “high standards of training” plus “pride in the job” seem far from the mark as, in my opinion, his colleague endangered young children’s lives by his actions.
