Corus made the fatal mistake of committing 80 per cent of its output to a single customer.
When that customer cancelled the contract, the end was inevitable.
Subsidising the wages costs is not the answer. Corus needs to find customers for its products, or produce products that potential customers will want.
Supporting the workforce to enable them to produce steel for which there are no customers does not solve the problem.
