RECENTLY, my nephew – who lives in Johannesburg, South Africa – sent me a copy of an article that appeared in your newspaper about Don Manson closing up his butcher’s shop in Darlington indoor market which was originally owned by John Twentyman Harrison.
Twentyman Harrison (Uncle Twent) had a brother, William Henry Harrison (1831-1902), who would be my great-great-grandfather. My great-great-great-grandfather Harrison (Uncle Twent’s father) was apparently a whitesmith and bellhanger in Heckmonwycke, near Halifax.
I am 86 years old and when I was young I heard about Twentyman Harrison, but never knew much about him so I was quite excited when I saw the article in your paper. I was born in Lowestoft and came to Canada in 1954. Thank you for making my day.
Kenneth Harrison, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
