I AM sure I am not the only person to be disappointed to read of Islam4UK’s intention to apply for permission to march through the Wiltshire town of Wootton Bassett.
Due to the perceived disrespect this would show to our soldiers killed in Afghanistan and their bereaved families, it would be easy to suspect that one intention of Islam4UK’s application is to stir up trouble.
However, rather than ban the protest march outright, which would give some credence to its position of a violation against their human rights, the authorities should allow the march to go ahead.
I then suggest that, rather than rising to the bait, those who disagree with Islam4UK’s position turn out in force to line the streets in silence and turn their backs on the protestors to show their feelings of disgust.
There is room in this country for people of all faiths and backgrounds, but at the end of the day we should be proud to be British and stand together behind our Armed Forces.
