ONLY a group which is so arrogant that it cares not who it offends or inflames would attempt to stage such a protest as Islam4UK intends to do.
This Islamic fundamentalist-supporting group intends to parade through Wootton Bassett with empty coffins symbolising Muslim victims of the Afghanistan conflict.
Why are the authorities not banning this? We have seen how intended protests by right-wing groups in areas of high ethnic minority make-up are prohibited to prevent civil disorder.
This group of troublemakers will outrage the townsfolk of this loyal and sincere community who have done their best to honour our fallen in Afghanistan. They show by this insensitivity that Islam holds no concern for the feelings of others.
Should they wish to march I suggest Afghanistan is a suitable venue. Islamic fundamentalism has no place on our streets; the hatred preached within mosques must not be allowed to be voiced openly in our towns.
The authorities must stand firm against this open disregard for our troops.
Colin T Mortimer, Pity Me, Durham.
■ Footnote: Home Secretary Alan Johnson has since said he would not hesitate to support a ban on the march if the police or local council requested one.
