THE repeated scenes at the Wiltshire town of Wootton Bassett of soldiers being returned home in coffins from Afghanistan are emotional, I think, for everyone.

I understand that people lining the route are made up of those who both agree and disagree with the conflict. It provides the opportunity for solidarity by those who are committed to the conflict, but it is moving to people like me who are convinced that the war is fundamentally wrong, and does not serve the purpose claimed for it.

It is the nature of things that we have wars, and with some wars there is fundamental disagreement.
