THE spirit of Lord Londonderry is alive and well it seems.
The reporting of plans to move Durham’s famous statue of Lord Londonderry and letters to Hear All Sides has been filled with intimidation, bullying and threats.
These are the sort of values which the statue of Lord Londonderry embodies and which some want to be set at the centre of our Civic Life.
My late grandfather was intimidated by such as he fought to allow the miners to be supported by Unions – and lost his job because of it.
I would like Lord Londonderry put on wheels and pushed off the cliffs, but he is only being asked to step aside and move across Durham Market Place – a generous offer given his history.
