IN his letter about bar-room politics, Tom Seale thinks decisions about the EU should be left to those who fully understand it (HAS, Nov 2).

Some of those who have undemocratically forced the Lisbon Treaty, alias EU Constitution, on the people of Europe, have not even read it. It is impossible to get any unbiased information from those who have.

The public and bar-room politicians are left with the unpalatable fact that, from inception in the Fifties until the recent re-running of referendums to obtain the right result, any developments are always underhanded and masked in deceit.

We are repeatedly told of the massive benefits of the EU, but surprise, surprise, recently it has been admitted it is not possible to quantify them, and most businessmen would point to the myriad of dictats from our masters in Brussels drastically hampering our competitiveness in world trade.

I see good reasons to be a part of Europe, but one of the main reasons we are being left behind is our Government’s submission to Europe while other countries employ protectionism and any other means to further their own cause.

Maybe the people Mr Seale laughs at are justified in instinctively mistrusting those who are hastening Britain’s descent into “no-man’s-land”.
