RE your report about Durham County Council planning officials backing the controversial proposals to move the Lord Londonderry statue across Durham Market Place (Echo, Nov 4).
This recommendation to councillors to support the move is in complete disregard to the 6,000 people who have signed a protest petition and more than 4,500 who have joined a Facebook group to leave it where it is.
Senior planning official Andrew Inch has showed his true colours. If this project goes pear-shaped he has put his head on the chopping block and should suffer the consequence. I hope the rest of the names are found out at the meeting at County Hall at 2pm next Tuesday when the scheme will be debated.
