A POSITIVE of the recent postal strikes is that it has shown once again that the Tories retain their destructive nature. They wish to break apart and sell off 100 per cent of our postal system to private firms that are no doubt lobbying the Tories hard to do this.

They have no respect for the principle of a universal postal system, nor the millions that depend upon it, and ignore the fact all privately-run schemes elsewhere are nowhere near as good or low-priced.

They have also confirmed their desire to rip up the Human Rights Act, an essential pillar of rights for every UK citizen which Britain helped create, and to tear up charters on employment rights most people take for granted.

They talk of banking responsibility, but in the week before Northern Rock fell flat they were pushing for complete deregulation of the banking market.

They talk piously about MPs’ expenses, but were the worst offenders. They (and voting for the Liberal Democrats to let them in) will send this country back to the political dark ages.
