WITH Remembrance Day looming, our thoughts turn to the servicemen and women who have fought for their country during two world wars or in more recent times.
At the Legal Services Commission, we work to ensure that people in the North-East and North Yorkshire who have risked their lives for their country can find expert advice about their rights when they return home.
The men and women serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and other parts of the world are, of course, at the forefront of our minds at this time, but it is important not to forget those who bravely served in earlier conflicts.
We have produced an online information leaflet, called Veterans: rights for former servicemen and women and their families, which explains about financial help available to veterans, serving forces personnel and their families.
It also gives advice on matters such as finding accommodation or work on leaving the forces and details of organisations that provide help and support to former forces personnel.
The leaflet can be downloaded from communitylegaladvice.org.uk/en/legalhelp/leaflet25_5.jsp The legal aid-funded Community Legal Advice helpline (0845 345 4 345) can also help people on benefits or low incomes by providing free expert legal advice on a wide range of matters.
