ONE of the great commentators of the 20th Century has died.

Ludovic Kennedy was one of a generation whose brand of journalism combined investigative and campaigning with a search for justice.

Kennedy was colourful and controversial. Hard hitting with intellectual strengths in print as well as on screen, he was not everyone’s favourite. His particular skill or prowess was getting to the heart of the subject.

Too often we see a sameness among commentators and writers.

Whether we agreed with his stance or not, Ludovic Kennedy’s combative style had appeal. He stimulated debate.

We need more journalists with the same qualities as Ludovic Kennedy.
