CONGRATULATIONS to P Holmes for his “I’m voting Labour” letter (HAS, Oct 12). I was beginning to think there was no support.
Let’s take a look at what as been going on in the Tory ranks of late. Tory MP Christopher Chope, along with ten other Tory MPs, is seeking to effectively abolish the national minimum wage through their sponsorship of a private Member’s Bill – the Employment Opportunities Bill – which was due for a Second Reading on June 12, but was deferred until tomorrow.
The national minimum wage has benefited more than a million people since it was introduced and this Bill would effectively undermine it by allowing unscrupulous bosses to pay what they like.
Then we have Shadow Chancellor George Osborne effectively saying that they plan to lift the state pension age for men from 65 to 66, rising to 68 over next ten years. They have not changed – same ideology.
