IT was nice to see former editor of The Northern Echo Sir Harold Evans and Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee being so complimentary about the paper’s present-day output when they appeared on a recent Andrew Marr Show (Echo, Oct 5).
Sir Harold drew particular attention to the Echo’s successful “A Chance to Live”
campaign about reducing patient waiting times for heart surgery.
This earned a deserved accolade for the paper. Miss Toynbee’s remark that The Northern Echo is still a serious local newspaper will please practitioners and readers alike.
