RE plans to erect a wind farm of 13 turbines at Hamsterley, County Durham. Figures from the National Grid show that during the cold, windless days of last February we derived on average our electricity from the following sources: coal, 44.5 per cent; gas, 32.7 per cent; nuclear, 18.4 per cent; and wind, 0.6 per cent (from 2,300 wind turbines).
So what use will these 13 turbines really be when electricity is needed?
