I WOULD like to thank Mike Amos for his John North column article (Echo, Sept 10) in which he mentioned the Westool/Warner Electric/Mechetronics closing bash, held on September 25 in Cockton Hill Working Men’s Club, Bishop Auckland. It turned out to be a great success with about 400 people coming and going all night.

There were people meeting up who hadn’t seen each other for 30 years or more, although it was quite difficult at times to put names to faces. I met up with Kenny Graham, who I hadn’t seen for 34 years, although I was quite jealous he still had a full head of hair. It was brilliant to talk over the good old days.

I would just like to mention some of the older generation who turned up – Vic Day, Robin Bestford, Alan Watson and actually a gentleman who maybe cannot be regarded as the older generation, but left Westool 50 years ago, Tony Elliott.

A big thank-you to Margaret Lee who organised this, as well as many other social gatherings over the years.

I would just like to wish the magnificent workforce I worked with over the years good health and all the best for the future.

John J Clinton, Bishop Auckland.
