THE cat is out of the bag” is the latest insult to the intelligence of the electorate being peddled by Labour.

It is seriously attempting to deceive the country into believing that cuts in public spending being discussed by the Conservatives, based on figures from Labour’s own budget, will not happen if it is returned to office. I myself have let the “cat out of the bag” in previous letters to HAS by stating that spending needs to be radically reduced in April 2011, whoever is in power.

Gordon Brown is being dishonest by denying the fact and David Cameron is not being entirely honest, either, by saying there will need to be “spending restraint”.

The truth is that we may see the harshest cuts in Britain’s post-war history The public knows this, in view of rising debt – a scandalous £340m every day.

This Government has brought our country to the verge of bankruptcy with public spending doubled, and what have we got to show for it? A bloated civil service. Where are the “world class” public services it “invested” in?

The next General Election will be about two choices: Tory cuts or Labour cuts, don’t kid yourself otherwise.
