CORRESPONDENT Julie Magee (HAS, June 8), whose son had his bottles of sun cream and after-sun taken off him by security guards at the Tyneside Evolution music festival, is not alone in her bafflement.
Sun cream was confiscated from me at Wembley Stadium on FA Cup Final day, which was one of the sunniest days of the year.
The difference between us was that mine wasn’t taken from me in case it had alcohol in it, but because I was told “you might throw it”.
Safety consciousness is often mocked be people, but shouldn’t someone get to grips with these “security firms”, or those who employ them, to make them do proper “risk assessments”?
What exactly is the risk of a 50- year-old throwing something costly from the upper tier of a grandstand, or a young person drinking out of a suntan cream bottle?
Now compare that to the risk of damage to health, as your previous writer (correctly) did.
B Dixon, Darlington.
