THE Government’s car scrappage scheme has resulted in a significant number of temporary workers being taken back on at Nissan (Business Echo, June 9).

Had the Conservatives been in power, what would they have done that would have resulted in jobs being created?

The Conservatives criticise the Government for spending its way out of recession, which I understand brings government debt to £13,000 per person. But isn’t that the lesser of two evils when the alternative is to have no income?

I do not know whether the Conservatives are using this spending issue as a political football when they are contemplating the same spending themselves, or whether they will, in fact, stop the spending if they are in power.

A country that hasn’t been able to spend its way out of recession is Iceland – a country which has ground to a financial halt, causing severe hardship. Is that what we want here in the UK?

Sir Alan Sugar is right when he says that the much-maligned Gordon Brown is the man with the skills to lead the UK out of recession, and I see no Conservative who can or will do it.
