CAN I congratulate The Northern Echo on its Northern Eco supplement (Echo, June 5) which gives a vivid picture of what private companies, voluntary bodies and state agencies are doing to make our part of the UK a cleaner and greener place in which to live, work and play.
It was, however, perhaps a tad unfortunate that the supplement was wrapped inside 20 pages of advertising for cars – and many of these from the gas-guzzling end of the auto market.
Perhaps the Echo might want to think about the next Northern Eco supplement being inserted in a similar set of adverts from our local public transport operators, giving news of their services and their timetables (hopefully with a promise that these will actually be observed and honoured)?
