IT’S great to see that Durham County Council is spending our money so wisely. An example I noted has been the recent installation of two bus stops near Tanner’s Hall Cottages, Stockley Lane, between Stanley Crook and Oakenshaw, near Willington.
Very nice they look, too, each one tastefully set off with a few yards of tarmacadam footpath suitably raised at the stop itself to allow disabled access. A shame that these are the only stretches of footpath the entire three-mile length of Stockley Lane.
I’m sure the residents of the two dwellings that comprise Tanner’s Hall Cottages are extremely pleased too, now they have the opportunity to stand by these bus stops to hail one or other of the only two buses that Arriva sends up and down that road (weekdays only, I’m afraid) providing one service each way per day from Tow Law to Durham.
Sadly, though, they will be quite lonely because there are no other dwellings anywhere near these shiny new examples of local government waste.
A single unitary authority for Durham will save us all money, we were told. I look forward to seeing pigs flying.
