FOLLOWING the furore over MPs’ expenses why not start a campaign to vote in the forthcoming European elections for the organisation that offers a categorical commitment to push for openness of all Euro MPs’ expenses: 72 UK MEPs all singing from the same sheet, preferably without a mainstream party affiliation, might just have some effect.
Another thought. Since no auditor has, for some 14-plus years, been prepared to sign the EU accounts because of possible fraud, etc, why not get HM Government to withhold the UK’s Euro contributions until the accounts are cleaned and signed? UK beneficiaries of ongoing EU funds can submit claims in the normal manner, copy to HMG. If acceptable, HMG makes payment on account so no UK entity suffers.
The cashflow would help UK plc and as a net contributor to Europe, the loss of UK funds might induce recipients of EU cash to apply pressure to get fraud/fiddles exposed/removed. If the UK gets fined, ignore it.
Others do.
