HUGH Pender suggests a memorial to the fallen service personnel in Iraq (HAS, May 8).

This is a good idea. However, it should be a mobile memorial consisting of a set of stocks that can be driven around the nation.

These should be occupied for a full week in turn by all MPs who voted for the war. Tony Blair can be given a special privilege of occupation of one week for each of those killed. I’m sure this would get public approval and there would be no problem in raising the funds to build it.

Having had a family member serve three tours in Iraq and listened to the news with dread every time more casualties were announced, a memorial should not only remember the dead, but remind the living of those responsible for wasted lives.
