JM GOWLAND asked why actress Joanna Lumley had got her self involved with the Gurkhas campaign (HAS, May 11). He asked if she was short of money and if her agent was trying to bring her back into the limelight.
If Mr Gowland had done his homework he would have found that Ms Lumley’s late father was a British army officer who was in charge of a Gurkha regiment during the Second World War.
Her father’s life was saved by a Gurkha soldier while they where under fire from the Japanese.
Ms Lumley seeks no publicity, as she does not need it. She is a credit to us all and I wish her every success in her campaign for these brave men.
Stephen Shields, Secretary, Bomber Command Association, Number 3 Branch, Sunderland.
